What We Do
Grouse River Canoe Adventures offers opportunities to explore remote
Northern Wisconsin areas with an experienced guide to provide clients
relaxation, fishing, camping, canoeing, hunting, and photography.  All

Who is your guide?
Ed has dedicated his life to the
outdoors, pursuing wilderness
adventures, fishing, hunting, and
an outdoor lifestyle.  He decided to
turn this into an opportunity to
share with others who desire the
same lifestyle, but due to their
busy lives, have not had the
opportunity to learn the skills and
techniques.  His hope is that every
person he guides passes on the
traditions.
Ed has EMT and firefighter
training; has logged in the Upper
Peninsula; worked as a cowboy in
the northern Rockies; and hunted
and fished everywhere in-between.
Ed has vast experience in the
outdoors across the country, and a
good-natured personality.
Ed shared his experience with
family and friends, who suggested
to him that he become a guide in
his neck of the woods.

STEP 1 - WHO WILL BE ON THIS TRIP?
What is the goal of this trip (scenic trip, multiple campsites to travel further, fishing, etc.)?  Who is going?  Does everyone
have similar interests, and want similar things out of this adventure?  Is everyone capable of handling the type of trip being
planned?

STEP 2 - WHEN?
Is everyone able to go during a time when the group's interest is most likely to be available (i.e. grouse hunting)?  If not, is
everyone able to match their expectations with the time frame agreed upon?  The sooner you start planning the dates, the
more likely you are to match dates that work for everyone to provide the most out of your trip.  Canoe tripping on dates
that do not match the group's interests is the main cause of canoe trip disappointment.

STEP 3 - WHAT KIND OF ADVENTURE?
What will work best for everyone involved?  A base camp and quiet, leisurely tours of the area?  A different camp each
night, and heavy paddling?  Cabin or camping?  Early morning/evening photography, fishing or hunting?  Does anyone
have special needs that require other planning?  Is everyone involved able to handle the chosen trip?

STEP 4 - WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO?
Call us, and your guide will help with this.  Turtle-Flambeau Flowage? Manitowish River?  Flambeau River?  A lake in the
Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest?  Other ideas?

STEP 5 - WHAT TO PACK?
Please see our Packing List for suggestions.

STEP 6 - FISHING/HUNTING LICENSES
If you intend to fish or hunt during your adventure, you will need a Wisconsin fishing/hunting license.  If you are fishing for
salmon, steelhead, or trout, you will also need a special stamp.  If you need assistance in obtaining this, we will be happy to
help you.  To obtain these online, please click the following link:

STEP 7 - WHAT TO EXPECT
Overall, expect to have a great wilderness experience!  Your outdoor adventure may be sunny and mild, fish practically
jumping into the canoe, wildlife abounding.  There may be wind, rain, or no fish at times.  However, these are all part of the
wilderness experience.  There are mosquitos and black flies.  These can all be overcome by being prepared for the season (i.e.
insect repellent, head nets, long sleeves, hats, boots, and rain gear).  Weather is generally not a deterrent, but an
opportunity to show your true wilderness spirit, playing cards in your tent, telling stories and sitting at the camp under a
tarp watching the storm come in.  It is amazing the unexpected fun that nature can provide.  Having a positive attitude can
make all of the difference between a great trip and a not so great trip.  Your guide monitors the local NOAA weather station
throughout the trip.  Should your trip be cut short due to inclement weather or hazardous conditions, your guide will
accommodate your specific needs, and we will assist with finding lodging if needed.  In this case, our refund policy is stated
below, in our
Reservations/Cancellations information.
